Moments in Time is a pioneering oral history project, delivered by our members of Sid Valley Memory Café, and funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund ‘All Our Stories’ grant programme.
Members have undertaken a programme of visits to local heritage sites, walked the route taken by the old railway, relived their school days using a ‘memory box’ of old exercise books, school slate and other memorabilia, listened to talks from local historians and, most importantly, recalled and shared their own memories of living and working in Sidmouth.
In the eleven different, themed sections, you will uncover ‘historical gems’ such as the ‘story’ of the bed Queen Victoria slept in when she stayed in Sidmouth, the day elephants walked down Sidmouth High Street and recollections of travelling on the old Sidmouth railway.
We aim to add ever more stories of Sidmouth life to our website, so please click here to add your won memories.
We sincerely hope you will enjoy reminiscing with us as you browse through all our memories and stories. Alternatively, you can download a free copy of our ‘Moments in Time’ Memory Book or buy your own copy here.
